José Manuel Leceta: “2022 was a year of pooling wills and gathering commitments in principle; 2023 was more about structuring, consolidation and prioritisation”.

An interview with the Español de Málaga

José Manuel Leceta has in his hands what the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, considered the most important milestone in the city’s technological ecosystem of the 21st century: the Ricardo Valle Institute of Innovation Foundation, also known as Innova IRV. This is an ambitious alliance of technology companies to carry out strategic projects that will transform industry throughout the country, with a microchip design centre as its first flagship.

In January 2023, Leceta joined Innova IRV as CEO following the departure of his predecessor just a few months after the launch of the initiative. He holds a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering, has a career in the space sector in Finland, France and Japan, has been international director of the Spanish agency for innovation, the CDTI, director of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and general director of Red.es, the Spanish agency for digital transformation. And he is still training.

Leceta assures in this interview with EL ESPAÑOL de Málaga that the Ricardo Valle Institute Foundation is the project in which all his concerns and learning over the years have led to; and that, being aware of the importance of the matter, he cannot help but wish himself luck “because it will be everyone’s luck”.
