On 15 and 16 September, Málaga hosted the 6th Smart City Congress of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI), held alongside a new edition of Greencities, where Fundación Innova IRV played an active role.
Over the two days, the Foundation, which participated as a sponsor, was present across the professional networking spaces, taking advantage of the event to showcase some of the projects and capabilities it is currently developing together with companies, technology centres and institutions.
Innovation with an impact on cities
As part of the RECI Congress programme, Mariano Morán, Director of Innovation and Projects at Innova IRV, took part in the session “Technology with Purpose: When Innovation Improves People’s Lives.”
His contribution focused on the role of technological innovation in the management of strategic resources and included the presentation of EIT Water, an initiative aimed at developing new solutions to address water-related challenges.
Participation in this session reflects one of the principles that underpin Innova IRV’s work: promoting technologies that go beyond research and can be transformed into practical solutions for the specific needs of companies, public administrations and citizens.
Innova IRV projects and capabilities
The RECI Congress and Greencities also provided a showcase for some of the Foundation’s main areas of activity.
During the event, the Innova IRV stand received a visit from an institutional delegation led by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre. The Foundation’s Managing Director, Eduardo Valencia, presented projects including the Cybersecurity Laboratory, EIT Water and ESA Phi-Lab Spain.
The Foundation also showcased capabilities related to microelectronics and sensor technologies, carrying out more than twenty demonstrations focused on air quality measurement at the Andalucía TRADE space.
Greencities, a meeting point for the urban ecosystem
The joint celebration of the RECI Smart City Congress and Greencities 2026 created further opportunities to connect with public administrations, companies and other stakeholders involved in urban innovation, sustainability and the technological transformation of cities.
Within this context, Innova IRV also took part in the Metropolitan Mayors Forum, promoted by Fundación CIEDES, where Eduardo Valencia participated as Metropolitan Commissioner for Energy, Waste and Industry.
Innova IRV’s presence at these events reinforces its role as a connection point between technological capabilities and the real needs of the territory, fostering collaboration between companies, knowledge and research organisations, and institutions to develop projects with tangible impact.
