Tamiza, the Málaga-Based Startup Reinforcing Cybersecurity and Digital Sovereignty from Spain

The project was born within the Fundación Innova IRV with the aim of developing a DNS shield that protects against cyberattacks, with the added advantage that data never leaves national territory
In a global digital landscape where cyber threats know no borders, digital sovereignty has become a strategic asset essential for businesses, public institutions, and end users. Protecting data and systems within national borders using proprietary technology and under a robust legal framework is crucial for ensuring privacy, security, and technological autonomy.
It is within this context that Tamiza emerged—a Málaga-based startup that has developed a cybersecurity solution committed to digital sovereignty: a DNS shield that protects companies, public institutions, and end users from cyberattacks, ensuring that customer data never leaves Spanish territory.
This project, developed in collaboration with Fundación Innova IRV, the National Cryptologic Center (CCN), the University of Málaga, and the Andalusian Digital Agency (ADA), has already been successfully tested in the corporate network of the Andalusian regional government, providing uninterrupted service to 150,000 devices.
Digital Sovereignty Versus Global Solutions: Tamiza’s Unique Value
Unlike other security solutions on the market, which rely on foreign infrastructure and providers, Tamiza has chosen an approach that prioritizes digital sovereignty and offers protection tailored to threats affecting Spain:
- Infrastructure Located in Spain: Tamiza’s DNS servers are hosted in data centers located within Spanish territory, offering a redundant, high-availability network that ensures data security and compliance with national legislation.
- Software Developed and Controlled in Spain with Full Source Code Access: Tamiza develops its software entirely in Spain using only open-source components with full access. This guarantees security and transparency in the code, eliminating technological dependency and reducing the risk of unauthorized access by third parties.
- Protection Focused on Spanish Assets: Developed and operated in Spain, Tamiza has greater visibility into threats targeting the country. This enables the company to more effectively identify and block attacks specifically aimed at Spanish companies, institutions, and users.
A Local Solution to a Global Problem
“In an increasingly digital world, digital sovereignty has become a key element in ensuring security and strategic autonomy,” says Bernardo Quintero, founder of VirusTotal and Vice President of Cybersecurity at Innova IRV. “Tamiza provides an additional layer of protection specifically designed to address the threats that most affect our environment. Because it is developed and hosted in Spain, this DNS shield has greater visibility into our surroundings and can deliver a faster, more effective response than generic solutions.”
The Tamiza DNS Shield: Proactive Protection and Digital Sovereignty
Developed with proprietary technology, Tamiza’s DNS Shield protects all internet-connected devices within an organization through a threat-filtering DNS server infrastructure. This system:
- Blocks access to malicious websites and addresses linked to malware distribution, including ransomware, phishing, financial fraud, and other attacks.
- Requires no software installation by users, which facilitates easy deployment and management.
- Is updated in real time, with a special focus on nationally targeted threats, ensuring effective protection against emerging risks.
Darío Guerrero, engineer and co-founder of Tamiza, explains: “This shield provides proactive protection by blocking threats before they reach devices. Since it is hosted in Spain, corporate data never leaves the country, ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and reinforcing the nation’s digital sovereignty.”
With a simple, rapid deployment that does not require the installation of hardware or software on the client’s network, Tamiza positions itself as the ideal solution for companies, public institutions, and end users to strengthen their cybersecurity and protect their digital sovereignty using Spanish technology.
